Co-operative Relationships
The University Medical Center Göttingen (UMG) fosters intensive cooperation with University internal and external research institutions in Göttingen.
Notably, the UMG closely collaborates with the Faculties of Natural Sciences at the University of Göttingen, with the Max Planck Institute for Biophysical Chemistry (MPI-bc) , the Max Planck Institute for Experimental Medicine (MPI-em), the Max Planck Institute for Dynamics and Self Organization (MPI-ds), the Max Planck Institute for the Study of Religious and Ethnic Diversity (MPI-mmg), and the German Primate Center (DPZ). The below listed interdisciplinary research bodies illustrate the diverse networking activities among the Göttingen research bodies.
Within the DFG Research Center Molecular Physiology of the Brain (CMPB) and the accompanying Cluster of Excellence Microscopy at the Nanometer Range, departments from within the UMG, the University of Göttingen, the Max Planck Institutes, and the DPZ closely collaborate. The European Neuroscience Institute (ENI-G) is a long term joint project regulated by contract between the UMG and the Max Planck Society (MPG) that provides optimal working conditions for internationally renowned junior research groups working in the field of neurosciences.
Basic scientists and clinical researchers collaborate particularly closely at the Heart Research Center Göttingen (HRCG) which unites researchers from the Heart Center (Herzzentrum) of the UMG, the Faculties of Natural Sciences of the University of Göttingen, the MPI em, the MPI-bp, and the MPI-ds, and the DPZ. The Göttingen Center for Molecular Biosciences (GZMB) is an interdisciplinary research institute of the University of Göttingen, which houses three departments of the UMG and several departments of the faculties of Natural Sciences of the University of Göttingen itself.Cross-institutional mergers of diverse teams addressing a specific research question are realized within the Center for Systems Neuroscience (ZNV) and the Center for Sustainable Development (ZNE).
Those departments that focus on neurosciences and on molecular biology together provide the basis for the international MSc/PhD programs Neurosciences and Molecular Biology.
