W2-Professorships a.Z. (tenure track) in Neural Signal Processing and Neural Interfacing
Department of Neurorehabilitation Engineering
The Department of Neurorehabilitation Engineering of the University Medical Center Göttingen,
Georg-August University, invites applications for the following two positions:
Professorship in Neural Signal Processing
(W2, 5 year tenure track)
Professorship in Neural Interfacing
(W2, 5 year tenure track)
The future professorship holders will be associated with the Department of Neurorehabilitation Engineering. Their research is expected to strengthen the Faculty’s scientific focus within the area of neuroscience and neurobionics. The new faculty shall complement existing expertise of the Department of Neurorehabilitation and contribute to the research programs of the ERC Advanced Research Grant DEMOVE (“Decoding the Neural Code of Human Movements for a New Generation of Man-machine Interfaces”) and other research grants held by the Department. The Göttingen Research Campus offers a rich scientific environment, where interactions, collaboration and perspectives for additional collaborative funding initiatives are available also beyond the Department of Neurorehabilitation. Of particular relevance are the Bernstein Center for Computational Neuroscience, the Bernstein Focus for Neurotechnology and the Center for Nanoscopy and Molecular Physiology of the Brain.
For the W2 Professorship in Neural Signal Processing, research addressing the following topics is needed to complement and complete the existing profile of the Department of Neurorehabilitation Engineering: theoretical aspects of neural signal processing, in particular in the field of time-frequency analysis, multicomponent AM-FM representations for nonstationary signal analysis, blind source separation, spike sorting, and the applications of pattern recognition techniques and system identification frameworks to classify stochastic signals. Applicants should have a strong academic background. Experience within theoretical as well as applied signal processing is required. The applicant should provide evidence of international recognition within the field of neural/biomedical signal processing.
For the W2 Professorship in Neural Interfacing, research addressing the following topics is needed to complement and complete the existing profile of the Department of Neurorehabilitation Engineering: nerve and muscle implantable electrode design, experimental expertise in animal models for implantable electrode testing, expertise in bioelectricity and bioelectric modeling, peripheral neural prostheses. Applicants should have a strong academic background. The applicant should provide evidence of international recognition within the field of electrophysiology and neural prostheses, as evidenced for example by the membership in Editorial Boards, conference program committees, invited keynote lectures, etc.
The Department of Neurorehabilitation Engineering of the University Medical Center Göttingen,
Georg-August University, is part of the Bernstein Center for Computational Neuroscience and of the Bernstein Focus Neurotechnology Göttingen, where it represents Neuroinformatics.
The employment prerequisites for professors is given in § 25 of the Lower Saxony University Law from 26.02.2007 (Nds. GVBI. 2007, p. 69). The University of Göttingen reserves the right of appointment.
The University of Göttingen strives to increase the number of females in its scientific staff and therefore especially encourages applications from females. Upon similar qualifications females will be preferentially favoured within the scope of the law.
Disabled persons upon similar qualifications will be preferentially employed.
Part time employment is not possible.
Applications with curriculum vitae, a description of scientific experience including teaching activity, a structured list of publications as well as five chosen reprints should be forwarded within three weeks of the appearance of this announcement to
The Dean and Member of the Board of Directors for Research and Education of the University Medical School, Robert-Koch-Str. 42, D-37075 Göttingen, Germany.
